Chimney assembly
Regulator valve
The new chimney has been assembled. From the top down is the chimney, underneath the
chimney is the exhaust blow ring which discharges the steam from the vacuum brake ejector,
all sitting on the 'petticoat which the exhaust steam from the cylinders passes into.
The valve assembly above is the mechanism connected to the drivers regulator.  The external
casting has been retained but the internal sliding valve plates have been
replaced and newly ground in by a local engineering contractor in Falkirk.
The estimated cost of the work is three to four thousand pounds.
Firebox end of boiler
Smokebox end of boiler
An inside view of both ends of te boiler, for the uninitated the left hand picture is the firbox end and the right hand one the smokebox end.  All the tubes for the exhaust gasses are in place and have been expanded except frp seven.  It is anticipated that they will be completed within a few days.  The right hand picture also show the tool used to expand tbe tube end in the plate to make a leakproof join.  The superheater tubes are still to be fitted.

Valve heads
Fittings being smoothed down
The valve gear piston heads have been cleaned and fitted with new rings and await
reassembly.
The flanges on the boiler front are in the process of being made flat to ensure a steamtight
joint with its fittings.  This completed by using a small surface plate and engineers blue to identify
the high spots.   The highspots can then be removed with a surface grinder, file or an engineers
scraper  depending on the amount of metal to be removed.
Newly painted cab and coal bunker
Left hand side tank with reversing gear mechanism
Work on the final painting of the cab rear and coal bunker is complete on the left hand side
but the right  hand side still needs the number adding.
The next big job, requiing a crane hire, is the intallation of the left hand side water tank.
The engine will be pulled outside the Romney Hut for this operation.  This is to be put into position
before the  boiler is put on as it has the mechanism for the reversing gear on it.
This needs to be fitted to allow the valve gear to be fitted and set.
It is expected that the work will be carried before the end of November.
